Inspiration is hard to come by. You have to take it where you find it.” – Bob Dylan
Lately, I have been trying to find my way, through so many changes, obstacles, and challenges. It’s a struggle to be inspired with a cluttered mind. I wake up with a visual of what I want to accomplish within the day. I get excited about it but when I sit down in front of the screen to write nothing comes to me.
I have been feeling as if I have been a slacker especially when it comes to my goals. Making a lot of excuses as to why this is not done or why I am not doing that. Feeling exhausted, most of the time. Like I have no sense of direction-or have lost my way a little bit.
To get out of this feeling of being uninspired, I decided to come up with a list of things that makes me want to get inspired:
1. I do my morning pages first thing when I wake up in the morning. Morning pages is writing three pages of mind streaming. Write down everything that comes to mind. No particular order-just write.
2. A hot cup of coffee inspires me. The smell, the taste, holding the cup in my hand puts me in the mood to write.
3. Listening to jazz or country music.
5. Lighting candles
6. Burning incense
7. Rearrange the furniture
I always start my day off with affirmations as well. The two words “I AM” work wonders when I am feeling stuck or in a creative rut.
1. I am creative
2. I am inspired
The list goes on and on everyday. The more I say them the more of a reality comes to me.
Following these tips have put things in perspective for me. I find myself waking up early with a purpose. I feel accomplished at the end of the day. I strive to want to continue and to grow more and more as a creative person.
